On Saturday, Missy, Sarah and I took off to Scottsboro, Alabama. We had been wanting to go to the Unclaimed Baggage store there. It was supposed to be a 3 hour trip but it ended up being 6. We first stopped at a state park and had lunch. I do not think people realize the kind of picnics Missy and Sarah have. When I have a picnic I usually have a sandwich and some chips. If I am feeling crazy, I might bring fruit. When you have a picnic with them it is deluxe- the king of all picnics. First of all, they have some amazing containers. i have been friends with them for awhile now, and we have taken lots of picnics, but I swear every time we go they have different containers. I have been to their apartment and spent large amounts of time there and I wonder where are these containers. Then of course, we do not just have sandwiches. There is pasta and pudding and two different types of bread. I eat better on their picnics than I do at home. ( Trust me I know how lucky I am) After we eat, Sarah feed the ducks and I had to take pictures. Then we are off again. I love going through small towns. I love the things that you see and the signs that you can find. Because I love small towns, I always want to stop. Lots. Missy and Sarah always let me stop.(again so lucky) We did stop at a nursery and got yelled at about taking a picture of a sign. She kept asking if we were reporters and over and over we kept saying No, we are just weird. She just did not get it though. She thought we were from a newspaper and were going to publish the sign. If I worked for a newspaper I would really want a more interesting story than this random nursery in the middle of nowhere.
Our greatest find was the VW bus in the middle of no where. I am not sure why my peace sign is sideways. Does it still mean the same thing if it is sideways? We finally arrived at the Unclaimed Baggage store. We had heard that it was a city block. In my mind, this is huge. I was afraid that I was going to run out of money. Really though, this was not the case. I swear we looked for 2 hours before we found anything. We were puzzled. We kept looking. Missy would not give up. I gave up. Sarah gave up. And Missy just kept at it. After 6 hours of driving, she was determined not to go away empty handed. After searching and searching this is what we found.
7 coats
1 shirt
2 scarves
1 book
1 purse
3 pairs of sunglasses
We believe that after you lose your luggage it enters a vortex and does not end up at the Unclaimed Baggage store until 6 or 7 years later. Do we recommend it? I would say if you are driving by stop in. If not, just go to your local thrift store.
Funny things we saw.
-a box of hunts ketchup packages for $4.75
-a really huge yellow toy that I am not sure would fit on a plane
-trail size grab boxes that were
5 dollars
-really huge shoes which made us think big feet must lose lots of luggage
-appliances. why would this be in your luggage
-No hairdryers and only one straightener
-a box of spoons
Really, it was a odd place.
